Take a Hike
Looking around it is not hard to tell that spring has finally sprung! The trees are green again, the flowers are blooming, the sun is shining for longer each day, and people seem to be in a better mood! With this new spring season, comes the end of the Lenten season. For many of us Lent means giving up something we like, but what does spring mean to you? For me, I think it means starting something new; adding something new that does not feel like just another responsibility but rather allowing me time to enjoy life!
Recently I began going on walks around different places in Lawrence to get outside, enjoy the weather, take breaks from studying, and enjoy the presence of a dear friend, Brenna. Neither of us are big on going to the gym, so this is an easy way for us both to be active while enjoying the beauty of spring. There are so many wonderful places in Lawrence that allow you to admire nature so I would highly recommend it if you could use a little break in your busy days. If walks are not your new thing, then I invite you to think about what is and how you can implement this in your daily life.
Although I just started taking walks with Brenna a few weeks ago, I have already realized such an improvement in my mental health and overall energy towards my daily tasks. Your new thing does not have to be walks but it could be journaling, painting, going to the gym, getting outside, enjoying a cup of coffee at your favorite coffee shop, going to sleep at a decent time, playing an instrument, making your bed each morning, or many other things. Small activities such as these help us enjoy life a little more and shift our perspective to not see life as a constant carousel of tasks to complete, places to be, and meetings to attend.
Spring has finally begun, nature has begun reviving itself, so what are you doing to revive yourself in this new season? Let’s take up a new thing that helps us become better people. Anything that improves you as a person is worth doing. Brenna and I will continue walking but find something that works for your schedule! Always take the time to find things you like to do and they will prove invaluable to your mental health and self-improvement.
